Texture & Retouching on the central area of a cello front

A recent retouching exercise on a beautiful cello with very textured varnish. Apart from being too dark and messy looking in colour, the old retouch had a flat and shiny texture compared to the deep, matt craqueleur of the original varnish.

After removing the old retouch, I applied some Deft and re-created the texture with my scraper. Even though it’s not 100% the same, it will fool the eyes enough not to be noticable, as long as the mattness of the retouched area is the same as the original varnish around it.
