Shaving bushes can come in handy when the pegs have worked their way into the pegbox a little too far, like the E and A peg showing in these photos.
Thick maple shavings soaked in hide glue get wrapped around the soaped mandril and pushed inside the cleaned-up peg holes and when dry, reamed out slightly to get that perfect taper to match the pegs. I have to admit that this is one of my least favourite jobs as it’s messy and fiddly.
