Happy New Year!

Antiquing of a new scroll

Happy New Year! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ

My husband Tony made a copy of a Peter of Venice violin many years ago but never actually got round to varnishing it as running his joinery business took priority. (Check out Deben Joinery Ltd).

The violin has a neckgraft and an ebony crown, so he always wanted to do some antiquing which frankly terrifies me as it is so different to what I do as a restorer.

So this is turning into a bit of a joint project. Tony varnished the violin and has now started removing some of it while I had a go today at retouching and applying patina to the scroll.

Can I just say how much respect I have for all of you makers doing good antiquing as I’m starting to realise just how difficult it actually is to make it look convincing and also how time consuming!
