These are a few examples of showing the importance of getting the staining of the new wood right before the area is sealed with clear varnish and retouched.

If the wood colour of the new pieces that have been fitted doesn’t match the original as close as possible before the area is sealed, I stand no chance of getting a good result, no matter how good I am at retouching.

The staining process usually involves chemicals first, which leave the wood looking clean but darken the wood and then assessing if any actual staining is required.

Details about my preferred method and materials of staining and retouching are explained in detail in my recorded Zoom lecture on Retouching: Https://iris-carr-restorations-ltd.teachable.com
